Language Education Should Start Earlier in Schools

Children have a great ability to learn new skills, they are curious and they have a natural desire to learn new things. When learning is child-centric and motivating, children learn new skills easily. Same goes for language learning. Children can become skilled multilinguals already at an early age. It takes time, motivation, goals and the right educational solutions.

Just before the turn of the year, Ministry of Education and Culture together with Finnish National Agency For Education started a trial where foreign language education starts already in the first grade. The trial is a part of the project to reform the Finnish elementary school. Minister of Education Sanni Grahn-Laasonen believes that with this trial Finland will find new methods and models to begin the foreign language education earlier in our schools.

The Importance of Language Skills

In a global world, as well as in terms of the future work field, language skills are a strength and a mandatory skill. Every child should also have the right to learn new languages already from a very young age. Sanni Grahn-Laasonen stresses the fact that unfortunately popular language immersions are available only for few children. In this case, digitalization can be very useful.

Moomin Language School offers digital language learning services for kindergartens and schools. A digital language immersion enables language learning for all children. The benefits of early foreign language learning are very important for the child's future. On Saturday the 28th of January, Moomin Language School will hold the lecture "Digital language immersion in kindergartens" at Educa in Helsinki. The lecture will give you information on early foreign language learning benefits and how a digital language immersion becomes a part of the everyday life in kindergartens.
